Efficient Web Tools: Netvibes.com

Posted on 14. Dec, 2009 by Mary Lutz in Efficient Web Tools

This morning I joined in on Kelly McCausey’s Breakthrough session as I do every Monday morning and she told us about this cool tool she uses to keep her projects organized. But, before I get into that let me tell you a little about today’s session.

It was really cool….LOL. No, it was more than that. Today we began discussing our goals and dreams for 2010 and Kelly began teaching us how to brainstorm and how to set goals for our businesses and for ourselves. Not to mention, she also gave everyone in attendance a free copy of her Brainstorming Workbook that helps you set brainstorm and set your goals for yourself and your business. The Breakthrough sessions are free to everyone: Just click the link, then enter your name and the password is mm. Breakthrough sessions are every Monday morning at 10:30am EST.

So, today as we were setting our goals for 2010, Kelly showed us a tool she uses for keeping her projects organized called netvibes. Of course I got super excited and right after Breakthrough, I checked it out. I’ve been setting it up and knew I had to share with you because it is so efficient and that’s what we’re all about here at Efficient WAHM.

When you first go to Netvibes.com you’ll need to register. Just click the register button and a little pop up box will appear where you fill in your name, email, etc. Though I’m using mine to keep track of my virtual assistant projects, I chose a “personal” account as opposed to a “Pro” account. Once you filled out all the boxes (only 5 I think) then click save or submit (I forget which one exactly but you’ll figure it out). They will send you a confirmation email.

Once your account is confirmed, you can begin setting up various pages including public pages and private pages. I have all my client projects divided into individual tabs (pages) for easy access. I have an overall page for ProVBS, a page for each of my personal blogs, and a page for each of my client’s projects. On each page I then added a To Do list, a bookmarks widget and a webnotes widget. I also added an RSS feed to each of the corresponding blogs. In addition, I added RSS feeds to relevant blogs and competing blogs. This way I can keep track of what’s been posted recently on each blog as well as see what the competition is posting. As I find more relevant or competing blogs I will add their RSS feeds as well as be able to bookmark ideas for blog posts and articles for each of the sites.

One of the main services I specialize in is writing so this system works really great for my business. The great thing about Netvibes is you can customize it as much as you want with all the various widgets available. You can also add Twitter, Facebook and email widgets if you so desire. I set up a “home” page where I have my Twitter widget, Facebook widget and a Google services widget set up for easy access to the services I use all day, every day.

I highly recommend Netvibes for any type of business you may have. It will help get you organized and stay organized.

PS. You can also choose a theme for your Netvibes, customize it and even create your own theme….how fun is that?
