Three Time Saving Tips for 2010
Posted on 26. Dec, 2009 by Mary Lutz in WAHM Biz Tips
As we approach the new year, I’m sure you’re thinking about goals to set, dreams to dream, and resolutions to make. Since “Efficient” is my name, I have 5 time saving tips that will help you reach your goals, be able to live your dreams and stick to your resolutions in 2010.
- Schedule, schedule, schedule. Nothing is more important for a work at home mom than having a regular schedule. You know when you’re kids will be at school, when hubby will be at work, that baby will take a nap sometime during the day (hopefully on a schedule), what time dinner needs to be on the table and when little Bobby or Susie has a school program or sports event you must attend. Put all of those things in a calendar that is easy to access, mark up and change. I use Google Calendar because it allows you to incorporate several calendars into one; it also allows you to view all calendars at once, one at a time or select which calendars you want to view. My husband and I have a family calendar where we keep track of his schedule which is always rotating, our paydays, kids events and so on. Then I have a separate calendar for just bills where I keep track of our bills and the day they are due so we don’t miss any payments. Then I have a calendar for the Chosen Youth Conference where I keep track of events I need to remember, price changes etc. And most importantly a “Blogging Schedule” calendar where I can set a schedule for blog posts as well as add any blog post ideas that might pop into my head randomly. Having a schedule will help you see when you have time to work your business and will help you use those hours wisely.
- Focus, focus, focus. One of the biggest time wasters you can have is a lack of focus. Using a schedule as recommended above, set aside specific times in your day or week for social networking on Twitter and Facebook and use those times wisely and to the best of your advantage. Also set aside time in your schedule for blogging and be sure to blog only (which means turning off Twitter and Facebook, email or anything else that might distract you.) This is where having a blogging schedule will come in handy; it will help you focus on the topic at hand for that day so the content will flow more easily. If your “focus time” gets interrupted due to unforeseen incidences, then be sure to reschedule that focus time later in the day. Once you start using this method, you will see how much more productive you are thus increasing profits….which is what we all want, right?
- Outsource, outsource, outsource. If you’re new to the work at home world you may think you can’t afford to outsource. However, if you’re spending all your time doing mundane or tedious work you don’t like or that takes you away from real money making work, you need to reconsider. What are some things you might consider outsourcing? How about comment moderation, blog and plugin updates and content management. Doing these tasks can be time consuming and aren’t immediate money makers. You can hire someone to do these tasks for you, freeing up your time to do more important, money making tasks, like marketing and selling.
Starting out the new year with these 3 tips will help you get on the right foot to building a more profitable and successful work at home business.
