Organize Your Life

One of the best ways to help you be more efficient in all you do is to be organized! But, organizational skills may not come naturally to you or you’ve gotten so far behind in keeping things organized that you feel too overwhelmed and don’t know where to begin!
I know the feeling, trust me!!! Since I started working from home full time in December of 2008, I find it much harder to keep my home organized, much less any other areas of my life. I think it’s because my family thinks that since I’m home all the time now, that I have more time to get the dishes, the laundry, the vacuuming, the dusting, the bathroom cleaning and all the other stuff done. They forget that I’m working! I sometimes wish I could make myself invisible so they would think I wasn’t home all the time.
As I write this article, I’m looking and thinking about all of the places I need to organize in my home alone. Now don’t get me wrong, everything has a place and most stuff gets put in it’s place, but usually not properly. I have a table in our makeshift office (a second living room) that is cluttered like no other! I also have 4, count ‘em, 4 junk drawers! Who needs 4 junk drawers?! Ugh. As soon as it warms up, I am going to take a week and de-clutter my entire home, including the shed. I’m going to sell stuff on Ebay, donate stuff, have a yard sale and throw some junk out! I’ve had it!!!
After cleaning out the house, I’m then going to work at being a minimalist. I’ve already cut back on buying frivolous things and impulse buying, simply because it’s not in our budget. Plus I just love a clean look and having too much stuff just clutters up your home and your life.
Being organized doesn’t just include your home though. Other areas that you need to be organized in for a most efficient life are your budget or finances, your schedule between your work, family and church or other activities, and your health.
Organized Budget
Having an organized budget simply means to know how much money you have coming in and where it is going. You don’t have to make budgeting complicated; it should be something that is easy for you to use and something that you will use and manage regularly. Pear Budget is a really simple, online budgeting program you can start using today.
Organized Schedule
To have an organized schedule means to know who is going where at what time. One way to do that is to use a shared calendar. This calendar can either be a paper calendar hung on a common wall, like in the kitchen, where everyone writes in their activities or it can be an online computer, if all your family members have online access on a daily basis. Google Calendar is a great program for calendar sharing online.
Organized Health
What I mean by organized health is simply to have an plan for healthy eating and exercise. In light of my husband’s recent mild heart attack we have gotten back to eating healthier and exercising. We plan what we eat by planning healthy meals and then shopping accordingly, and I am going to start scheduling exercise into my daily routine right along with my work schedule.
